Heartland Meadows Staff

Rick grew up in Iola, and attended Allen County Community College.  After ACCC, he went on to earn a bachelor of science in agricultural economics degree at Kansas State University and then a Masters in Business Administration at Baker University.  For the last thirteen years Rick has worked in the animal health industry.  Rick now plans to focus his time expanding the home plus business model, building new facilities in surrounding towns.

In 2007, Rick married Jalayne.  They have two children, Alston 7 and Finley 3.  Rick and Jalayne reside in Iola.

Born and raised in Iola, I am the oldest of six in my family. At a young age I knew that nurturing was my calling. From teaching my siblings everything I learned in school that day to rescuing every stray in the neighborhood, I knew as a young child that helping others was my passion.  While touring a vo- tech school nursing program for one of my education classes and working in a pharmacy, I became interested in the field of nursing. I moved back to Iola and completed my schooling to become a Registered Nurse in 1996.

Today, the mother of five children, I have spent twenty years developing my skills in nursing and management. I have known since I attended Eden Alternative training in 2003 that I wanted to create a home for my elders that defied the norm. Bill Thomas, a leading gerontologist was forming small care homes in neighborhoods across America and getting away from large institutional living was exciting to me.

Last April I obtained my operator’s license which will allow me to be an administrator of this type of facility. I love having the opportunity to improve the quality of life and oversee the care of our most treasured loved ones.
